A Trip to D.C.
I'd never been to Washington D.C. before this Summer, and neither had Jim or the boys. Conveniently my little sister, Amy - and her brilliant self - was there doing a summer internship.
Amy's that person who trails fun in every step she takes...
who better to have as a personal tour-guide.
Ty & The Lincoln Memorial
Bo was not super thrilled with the White House visit. In his defense, maybe unless you get to go
inside - it's sort of anti-climatic.
Lucky for us we were there for the 4th of July, and the White House Visitor Center was having a Birthday Party for The Nation. These temporary tattoos and the colonial characters in full costume really turned things around.
Before I could put a stop to it -Ty had put the tattoo on his face.
These were activity/journal books I made for the boys ahead of time to try to keep them interested in the sites & the history. They're such smarties, they both did a bang-up job!
Of course - a point system & prize at the end might have had something to do with that.
Jim's Mom - (Grammy P.) came from North Carolina, and played with us for most of the trip.
Our hotel was on Pennsylvania Avenue so we strolled to Georgetown just about every night for dinner.
Fireworks on The 4th -
I'm leaving out so many fantastic things we saw...
The flag that inspired the Star-Spangled-Banner, Lincolns Hat, Niel Armstrong's Space Suit, The 911 Exhibit, Georgetown, The engravings at Lincoln's Memorial, Unmanned drones at Air & Space, The 'I Have A Dream' spot, The First Lady Dresses, and on and on...
This is how we all felt at some point each day. Heat Warnings the whole week we were there.
The Air & Space Museum was the favorite. We went back three times.
We went for seafood one night down by the Potomac River.
The dessert buffet was kid heaven.
Trying to get Bo to pose for a picture... as he gets older - this is taking a lot more muscle.
Our last night we went to a Nationals Baseball Game
The boys adore Amy. In their heads - I don't think she counts as an adult.
Adults are so boring after-all.
The Nationals lost despite our cheering, but the weather, the seats, and the company were perfect!
A fantastic trip!
