About Us...

About Us...
This is our travel blog... our electronic travel journal you could call it... documenting our journeys to new & different places. I called our blog, 'Tree Top Flyin'... a Jimmy Buffett reference that reminds me of traveling, & the adventures to be had with our newly acclaimed 'IFR' Pilot & his plane. We're a non-traditional family - living in non-traditional ways... and I love it that way. For the four of us life is quick & distinct... it's unique and adventuresome - but it's also very normal. We have angst, & we have laughter. We have pain and we have greatness. We're happy, and we're whole...this family, that is mine.

Honeymoon Part II

Flying to Milford Sound
I must get through the 'Honeymoon Posts' before our first anniversary.

We took a small plane through The Sounds, and it was beauuuuuutiful.
It was just a 35 minute flight to Milford - but the contrast in scenes made it seem as though we were traveling through a different universe.
Islands, Snow-caps, Waterfalls, Mountains

Jim was thrilled to sit co-pilot - now he knows what it feels like to be me - sitting, watching, doing nothing.
This was a shot just before we did what Jim and I would never have done in our own plane...
see the narrow canyon ahead? the pilot flew us up into it and turned the plane around completely - hugging mountain on every side. Exhilarating yes, but not conservative aviation.
That was not in the brochure.

Once we landed we jumped on a small cruiser and floated to see thunderous waterfalls and some wet wildlife.

I think my humerus is in-tact, but my radius is split in two...
This is pre-broken arm, oh - we were SO happy!

and then literally, twenty minutes later. Stacey and I were underneath an up-side-down snow-machine, wishing we were back in the safety of the flat pasture.
One wrong angle, one not-so-great-driver, and one broken arm. that stupid crash ruined everything.

Im really happy it was me and not Stace. She was the sweetest in my early moments of hysteria while Jim was fetching the truck.
icicles to numb the pain.

this is my fat hand today. I'm at half speed for a while - could have been a lot worse.
