About Us...

About Us...
This is our travel blog... our electronic travel journal you could call it... documenting our journeys to new & different places. I called our blog, 'Tree Top Flyin'... a Jimmy Buffett reference that reminds me of traveling, & the adventures to be had with our newly acclaimed 'IFR' Pilot & his plane. We're a non-traditional family - living in non-traditional ways... and I love it that way. For the four of us life is quick & distinct... it's unique and adventuresome - but it's also very normal. We have angst, & we have laughter. We have pain and we have greatness. We're happy, and we're whole...this family, that is mine.

Maui, HI - June 2-8, 2007

This trip was easily the best trip of the 2007! It was our first real family vacation - all four of us. We stayed at The Grand Hyatt on Kaanapali Beach, and our room was as good as it gets. The boys are little FISH so the pool was a huge hit. They had a slide & shallow play areas with sand, giant turtle statues, etc. It was so fun to watch them play... happy as can be. They're funny when they play... I don't think they interacted once in that pool. Bo's usually splashing around, goggles in place, imagining he's a Hot Wheels driver, or a kung-foo fighter... completely oblivious to everyone around him. And Ty is usually skimming the edges of the pool, face under water, toying with the idea of creeping over to the deep (too deep) end. It's hillarious to me that they go in separate directions & dissapear into their own little universe.

One of the first days we went snorkling in sea turtle territory. I'm infamous for getting sea-sick so I spent most of the boat ride trying not to lose it, but as soon as the boat stopped - I was great! Ty was so brave - and snorkled almost the whole time... I was super proud of him. There was no convincing Bo of getting in the water, understandably - it's a little scarey.

We saw a real live Luau one night, with fire dancers and the whole bit. We saw the island from a hellicopter; spent one day on Wailea Beach boogy-boarding (Ty & I got hammered by some serious waves); & drove through the rain forest on dune-buggys.The rain forest was the best... hopefully the pictures speak for themselves! It was such an awesome trip that I've been trying to talk Jimbo into making it an annual tradition!

Jackson Hole, WY - Jackson with The Whites (May 25-27, 2007)

We took Robin & Derrick to Jackson Hole with us to spend a weekend... neither one had ever been, so it was especially fun to 'show them around'! We went hiking, and cooked dinner, Jim & Derrick put our new BBQ grill together - and then we put it to the test with some juicy steaks. We went horseback riding - and of course, I got the disobedient horse... or maybe my kicks were too soft?? Jim kept telling me to kick him harder but I'm a woos! Jim knows horses so well, and looks so natural riding, I was jealous. Even Robin & Derrick (Derrick had never been on a horse) did better than I did. You'll notice in all of the pictures I'm hunched over, clinging for dear-life. I looooove horses, why am I so damn afraid of them? One of these days...

Denver, Colorado - Bo's Birthday

April 27th - 29th, 2007

We took the boys to Six Flags in Denver for Bo’s birthday. Ty rode ‘Twister II’ with me – what a champ! The walk towards the line was a long one and he asked once to turn back, but we kept going. I think we both hated it until it was over – and then we felt like brave warriors! Bo got Heely’s and a bubble-gum machine for his birthday. Greg Pojar & Stacy also had their engagement party that weekend. I met Jeff Green & his girlfriend, Katie… she was a hoot!

Denver, Colorado - Avelanche Game

March 31st, 2007
I got Jim tickets to an Avalanche (NHL) game for Valentines Day. Two weeks earlier Greg Pojar called w/ tickets to the game the week before. I swear, my gifts to Jim always get ruined.
We went anyway, even though Greg stole my thunder. The game was a riot. I love that stadium!

Antigua (Caribbean Island) - Feb 28th-Mar 8th, 2007

The trip to Antigua was probably my first “real” vacation. I’d never seen anything like it!The Taxi ride from the airport to the resort merits a permanent memory in my mind. I REALLY thought we were going to die.Our room was ground level with a walk-out patio to the beach, and an unbelievable view of the ocean. At least 3 couples got married in ‘our’ back-yard the week we were there. Steel drums & tropical flowers… and a down-pour of rain for one couple.I think the first three days we were there we did nothing but lounge and eat. Jim went diving one morning and I indulged at the spa.Around day three we found the ping-pong table and the empty dance club. Ha! We rocked the dance-floor like it was packed… but really we were the only ones there! I was robbed from my 1st place spot in musical chairs one night – but got a 2nd place bottle of Antiguas locally made tequila (which I steered clear of)!The day we went on the Jungle Safari was one of my favorites. Our tour guide was genuine and full of energy. He drove an open jeep that sat eight of us in back, and taught us about the islands’ history, as well as its’ people and their way of life.Leaving the island... the journey THERE is always so much better than the one back home.It was an unbelievable trip!

Las Vegas, NV - Superbowl 2007

January 4th-5th, 2007

At the very last minute, realizing we had no Superbowl plans - Jim & I decided to fly to Vegas for the day to watch the game. We flew out on Sunday morning, stayed one night @ Mandalay Bay, and flew home Monday afternoon. Needless to say - I don't remember who played, or who won (I'm notorious for watching an entire sporting event & then not knowing who won). Good Times!

The One-And-Only pic we took on this trip. Apparently my rule of thumb to 'take @ least ONE picture' when you go somewhere - isn't always advantageous... Note to self - 'Sometimes No picture is better than a hideous one. :) Ha! I'm not afraid.
