About Us...

About Us...
This is our travel blog... our electronic travel journal you could call it... documenting our journeys to new & different places. I called our blog, 'Tree Top Flyin'... a Jimmy Buffett reference that reminds me of traveling, & the adventures to be had with our newly acclaimed 'IFR' Pilot & his plane. We're a non-traditional family - living in non-traditional ways... and I love it that way. For the four of us life is quick & distinct... it's unique and adventuresome - but it's also very normal. We have angst, & we have laughter. We have pain and we have greatness. We're happy, and we're whole...this family, that is mine.

Salmon River, ID - Hughes River Trip - August 16-23, 2007

This is what is now known as 'The River Trip' as we have officially declared it an annual event. Hughes River Expeditions is owned by Jerry Hughes, and is operated by him and his amazing crew. It was seven days-six nights... no showers, no toilets, no hair-dryers, and a lot of dirt. HOWEVER... it was excellent food, amazing people, phenomenal surroundings - and of course our little friend we call 'The Groover'.

Just so everyone understands... this is a 'not a trace' trip... which means - what you bring in, you haul out... even your poop. I'm sorry, but that's the best way to explain it - 3 words or less, there it is. And lets just say... is it not enough that I'm going seven days with no shower and a blond fro?

Now we all know that girls don't poop - so I'll speak for the men here when I say... they call it a 'Groover' because it leaves grooves in your butt. It's basically a tool-box for a toilet! And we strap that guy in a raft every morning before we get on the river. Ha!

I'm making it sound terrible - but it's truthfully a very cool trip. It's an interesting combination of rouging it/facing the outdoors and 5 Star accommodations! In my book - you really can't beat that!
The swamp boat goes ahead of the gang every day so when you get to camp, your tent is set up - your packs are on the beach, and cocktails & appetizers are just awaiting your arrival. We talked our good friends Greg & Eileen into coming with us - and we think we might have them convinced to come back next year??
If anybody ever wants to come with us - it's a FUN experience, and we're constantly recruiting. You never know what the rest of the group is going to be like (oh do we have stories) - so to bring some chums you can count on for a good-time is invaluable!

If you want to put music on your blog, you can click on the playlist on my blog and it will take you to the site to create your own playlist. YOu can do that on any of the links on my blog. That is the only way that I know how to get them. I just see something I like on someone elses blog and then click on it to add it to mine!
